Juan and I love our fries, and we like them extra crispy, which usually is extremely hard to get unless you’re deep-frying the potatoes in plenty of oil.

Making fresh fries from scratch

In our house, we prefer to use yukon gold potatoes but you can also use russet potatoes.

This is due to personal preference – so do what you like. If you do decide to leave the skin on, make sure to scrub and clean the potatoes well and dry them before cutting them.

The way to ensure the fries turn out beautifully crispy and golden are to toss them every 5 minutes so that they cook evenly on all sides. Make sure you toss them, because this is the trick to perfect air fryer french fries! Each batch of fries cooks up in just 15 minutes at 400F, so you’ll only need to toss them a few times.
Don’t overcrowd your basket
Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may be able to cook more or less fries per batch. A general rule of thumb that I use is to not fill up the basket to more than 1/3 full, so that the fries have plenty of space to cook and get crispy.
If you want to cook more potatoes than that, just fry them in different batches, place the cooked fries one side while you are cooking the rest, and simply reheat all of the potatoes in the air fryer for a couple of minutes at 400F before serving.

If you don’t have time to cut potatoes into fries, or just happen to have a bag of frozen fries lying around in the freezer, you can use them too!
You’ll need a slightly longer cook time (approximately 10 minutes more) if you’re starting out with frozen fries, but the results will be the same. See recipe notes for instructions on how to cook frozen french fries.

Notes
Skin On or Off?Whether you leave the potato skin on or off is a matter of personal preference. I like peeling the potatoes when cooking french fries, and prefer leaving the skin on when making potato wedges. Either way, the fries are going to taste delicious!
冷冻薯条:If you’re using frozen french fries, simply follow the instructions but cook the fries for 25 minutes instead. Toss the fries every 5 minutes until they are crispy and golden brown all over.

A rule of thumb that I use is to leave it at 1/3 full, so that the fries have plenty of room to cook and crisp up all over. My air fryer is 3-quart in capacity and this recipe works perfect for one batch, if you have a bigger air fryer, you can cook more potatoes at one shot.
